Midas touch: The healthy goodness of gold kiwi

Gold Kiwi

Golden-fleshed kiwi is what you need to try now.

Gold is making its way from the catwalks to the kitchen, thanks to Zespri SunGold, a new variant of kiwifruit that’s power-packed with more than 20 essential vitamins and minerals.

Swathed in a smooth russet skin, this oval shaped, golden-fleshed kiwi is the result of 10 years of dedicated research using only natural plant breeding methods.

One SunGold kiwi contains 161mg of Vitamin C – that’s three times more than oranges, bite for bite! – fulfilling more than one’s daily Vitamin C requirement for the day.

The fruit is also exceptionally rich in Vitamin E – seven times more than apples and oranges – making it essential for the stimulation of cellular renewal and collagen production. With such high levels of fibre, folate, potassium and antioxidants, it’s no wonder they call this one of the most nutrient-dense fruits on earth.

More good news: the University of Otago, New Zealand, has found that eating two kiwifruit a day can boost a person’s mood and provide fuel for the body.

Said Indra Balaratnam, consultant dietitian at the launch of Zespri SunGold: “Most of us who are constantly on the run will tend to experience fatigue easily. That’s a sign of poor vitality. Vitamin C helps to activate enzymes in the body that play an important role in the regulation of metabolic energy. With high doses of Vitamin C, it can reduce feelings of tiredness and increase both physical and mental energy. Hence, it is important to include food rich in Vitamin C in the everyday diet.”

Oh, and did we mention it’s also delicious?

The SunGold adds a dash of zest to every dish, whether it is used as a primary ingredient or a mouth-watering dessert.

Can gold be more irresistible?
