Best New Gourmet Housewares Products Named

Lifetime Brands’ Savora Colander has receive the Best of Show in gourmet housewares at NY Now.

Four companies were named Gourmet Housewares Best New Product Award winners in connection with the winter 2014 edition of NY Now, formerly NYIGF, which began Feb. 1, and continues through Feb. 6, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

These four honorees also are eligible for NY NOW’s “Best of Home” Award, which are being determined by online balloting at – – during the show.

Awards also were presented in three product-specific categories, including cooking (cookware, bakeware and electronics); dining (serveware, bar/wine accessories, picnic/barbecue accessories and specialty foods); and kitchen preparation (kitchen gadgets, kitchen textiles, cook books and storage/containers). Winners and finalists in each category were selected by a panel of eight trade editors, including Anna Wolfe from The Gourmet Retailer, based on innovative design; creative use of materials/construction; and use of new materials/ technology.

“This product category is crowded with quality and innovation, but these companies in particular set a higher standard in product design and performance,” said Marc Delman, Tabletop + Gourmet Housewares national sales manager.

The winter 2014 winners and finalists are:

Lifetime Brands Inc., Garden City, N.Y., for its Savora Colander, a stainless steel colander with a premium, baked-on finish and drainage holes, designed in a vortex pattern.

Winner: Zoku, Hoboken, N.J., for its Zoku Ice Ball, which forms perfect ice spheres by pouring water through the hole on the top of the food-safe silicone mold and freezing. It comes in a stackable set of two and is BPA- and phthalate-free.
Finalist: Charmeur LLC, Provo, Utah, for its Chocolate Making Kit.
Finalist: Uniware Housewares Corp., Hauppauge, N.Y., for its Ecolon Ceramic Coated Cookware.

Winner: Sparq Home, Denver, for its Dining S/4 Vodka Shooters with Caddy, which includes two-ounce shooters with a rustic wooden serving tray for easy transport from freezer to table.
Finalist: International Innovation Co. / Vacu Vin, Indian Trail, N.C., for Dining Snap Wine Thermometer.
Finalist: The French Farm, Houston, Texas, for its 6 Stainless Steel Steak Knives in Wooden Block.

Winner: Aquaovo, Montreal, for its Ovopur, an offline gravitational filter made from natural materials fusing age-old traditions with tomorrow’s trends.
Finalist: Natural OliveWood, New York, for its Rustic Cutting Board.
Finalist: Picnic Time Inc., Moorpark, Calif., for its Parlor Ice Cream Mixing Set.

All four winning products automatically qualify for consideration in the NY NOW “Best of Home” Award, which will be determined through online voting here. “Peoples’ Choice” balloting runs Feb.1-5, and the winner will be announced on Feb. 6.
